The Threat and the Challenge
In reading some of the headlines today, I have to say that the entirety of what I have always held as the American moral ideal in dealing with foreign nations and American citizens is shattered. Its not a Republican thing or a Democratic thing, its just plain insanity. Many people who email me or talk to me about the world's current affairs are beside themselves regarding what is happening. We have to hand it to the current Administration. They ain't playin'. They just come out and say what they are going to do and then they do it, much to any man's chagrin that anyone could be so blatant. Much less, they get away with it. Nobody of any substance is standing up and saying, "Wait a minute, you are wrong."
The Republicans are huddled in their corner acting like they know more than the rest of us about how to handle these terrible, nation-threatening policies that have been adopted. They are making deals as if they have to. They are essentially quiet about the terrible decisions that are being made on behalf of the American people. The Democrats also seem to be in a stupor over the policies spewing forth from their own people. Just one small example, this Administration is helping al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood take over Libya. It helped the Muslim Brotherhood take over Egypt. These are enemies of the United States and destabilizers of the Middle East. With impunity these things have been done.
Then there is the Church and those who say they are Christians. We are not without blame in this. We, too, have been so busy with our buying of church buildings, our self indulgent man-made doctrines, our self-righteous prayer circles, our self improvement conventions and retreats, that we have not been about our Father's business. Romans 12:21 says, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." By shrinking back and waiting for a rapture or trying to command God to do this or that, or by swallowing do-gooder doctrines, have we not become ineffectual? Where is the standard that our Lord and Savior set for us? Can we honestly look in the mirror and say, "I've done my part"?
Now I know that there will be some who will read this and become so indignant that they will press the unsubscribe button. And others will reply and say, "What else can I do?" The fact is we have evil staring us down every day, across the board in our lives from the media we watch and hear to the politics to the finances and other things in our lives. It has become a tipping point. Either we are going to succumb and watch as our freedom to worship and speak are swept away by the critical mass of current events, or we are going to stand in the gap with both prayer and action. The Lord knows your heart. 1 Samuel 15:22 says, "to obey is better than sacrifice." Let us not be perplexed or confused, but find what we can do to overcome this evil before us.

The encouragement of these prophetic times
The headlines in the news these days can be very frightening. The Middle East is in an uproar and it appears that the United States has been complicit in bringing it about--paving the way for enemies of Americans and Israel to take power. Gasoline prices are moving higher every day. Food prices are inflating at record rates. The United States is running record deficits and record debt--even the new White House budget adds another $80,000 of debt to every American household, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The frivolous war in Libya already is costing taxpayers nearly a billion dollars. These are very prophetically significant events in that they demonstrate the calamities in the wake of wickedness.
Yet the preachers are preaching self improvement, prosperity, personal empowerment, self indulgence, and strange theologies. The politicians are bringing about wars and rumors of wars. There are earthquakes, famines and pestilences and persecutions. Jesus prophesied these things would come about. In Luke 21:8,9, Jesus said, "Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by."
Jesus said that during these times (Verses 16, 17), "And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake." You see, Jesus is telling us of the days to come. They are not going to be easy from the world's eye view. Those who speak in the name of Jesus and preach that false hope that as a Christian all things are going to go well, are false teachers. In fact, Jesus tells us in Luke 21:12 that we will be delivered up to the authorities for His name's sake. Verse 13 says, "And it shall turn to you for a testimony."
In fact, as the days of the world grow worse and worse, and the persecutions increase as do the signs of the times, Jesus has these words of comfort in verses 18-19, "But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls." Jesus promises when he lays out the Great Commission in Matthew 28 that he will never leave you nor forsake you. He also says of your clothing, food and needs in Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." We are to be about our Father's business, seeking the kingdom of God, seizing opportunities for a testimony. We should see these times as a time of victory rather than through a lens of fear. Be encouraged!

Presidential Speech: Fighting al Qaeda by aiding al Qaeda
Against the backdrop of the Shiite leadership in Iran saying the coming of the Islamic Messiah and the end of the world is near, the US president addressed the American people in an effort to justify his war in Libya. The prophetic implications of his speech and the entire situation that has quickly evolved in the Middle East are phenomenal. Zechariah 12:3 says of Jerusalem that "all the people of the earth be gathered against it." Certainly, radical elements that are haters of Jews and Christians alike--Islamists, leftists, Arabs, socialists--are aligning against God's people--both Jews and those Gentiles who as Romans 11:17 says are, "grafted in among them and with them partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree."
The president justified an attack on Libya by saying, "To brush aside America's responsibility as a leader and -- more profoundly -- our responsibilities to our fellow human beings under such circumstances would have been a betrayal of who we are. Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. \The United States of America is different. And as President, I refused to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action." He did not, however, address the very fact that Libyan rebels are comprised of al Qaeda and mercenaries that fought American soldiers in Iraq. Quite the opposite, he said, "That's why we're going after al Qaeda wherever they seek a foothold."
The Director of multilateral affairs at the National Security Council, Samantha Powers, told a crowd at Columbia University Monday that the president's two year campaign to promote human rights helped trigger the uprising in Libya. If so, his actions also could be credited with inspiring uprisings across the Middle East--all of which involve terrorist organizations, including al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and others. Powers was one of three women in the Administration that included Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Ambassador Susan Rice to overrule Defense Secretary Robert Gates in the decision to go to war in Libya. Gates, even as late as Sunday, said that Libya is not a "vital interest for the US."
The common thread among the rebellions across the Middle East are terrorist and jihadist interests. But this Administration would have Americans believe that these uprisings were the result of people wanting democracy. While the common people may want democracy, terrorist-enabling organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood embrace democracy as a way to establish their power and institute Sharia law. The president of the United States is going before his citizens and saying he is acting on behalf of humanitarian interests and those wanting democracy, when in actuality, he is advancing America's enemies. This is classic ideological subversion designed to confuse people. Americans should demand truth.

Thinking the unthinkable: White House supporting Jihadists?
The White House has repeatedly claimed that it attacked Libya to protect its citizens from human rights violations. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on February 28 told the United Nations Human Rights Council, "The international community has been speaking with one voice, saying very clearly that Colonel Gadhafi's brutal attacks on his own people are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Gadhafi has lost the legitimacy to govern and it is time for him to go without further violence or delay." American officials all the way to the Oval Office have been using possible human rights violations as justification for bombing Libya.
Yet dictators and regimes across the entirety of the Islamic Middle East and Africa by law are gross violators of human rights. That law is Sharia law. And wherever we have seen unrest in recent weeks, reports of these regimes turning guns on their own citizens have surfaced. If the logic carried through that we entered Libya with force because of human rights violations, then the United States military would also be deployed in Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran and a host of other countries. In fact, if human rights were the justification, any Islamic state would be occupied by the United States. Where were we when massacres were taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan?
Bloomberg reports that Clinton also is considering arming the Libyan rebels. Clinton told reporters on March 17 in response to a question about arming the Libyan rebels: "those kinds of specificities are exactly what's being negotiated and debated..." Problem is, if America arms the Libyan rebels, it will be arming al Qaeda. The UK Telegraph reported on March 25 that Libyan rebel leader Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi admitted that al Qaeda had joined his efforts as well as jihadists that had fought against the US in Iraq. Chad's president earlier announced that al Qaeda had stolen sophisticated arms from the arsenals in Libya. Hence, the possibility the American plane shot down was done by the "rebels" we are helping.
The Libyan attack was either the least justified military intervention of the century, or the most deceiving, unscrupulous and cunning of recent events. Publicly, it appears to be just another one of this Administration's many foreign policy blunders, but more disturbing is the hypocritical justification and the emerging pattern of America being aligned with terrorists such as the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. Libya is a prophetically significant event, although the layers of it remain in the shadows. 2 Timothy 3:13 says that in the latter days, "...evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Americans should question if the president's Muslim roots go deeper than he says they do.

The great prophetic awakening of the heathen by the prophet Joel
The current state of affairs in the Middle East presents quite a conundrum. There are at least three elements in play. One is the status quo where there is a gradient from repressive to oppressive governments in place. These governments have been stable for a number of years, and they do rule with an iron fist, and they are generally enemies of Israel whether they proclaim it or not. And they are enemies of America whether they say so or not. Saudi Arabia, for example, is considered a great American ally, but in reality its radical Islamic teachings, its infiltration of America with Wahhabism and substantial oil money works against Americans. Most of the 911 terrorists were Saudi.
Yemen is a repressive regime. Largely isolated, the Yemeni government rules harshly and has already killed at least 50 people in an uprising there. Syria, on the other hand, is an oppressive government. In league as a vassal of Iran, Syria's Bashar Assad (despite what Saddleback church pastor Rick Warren says) is a persecutor of Christians, a hater of Jews and proliferator of terrorism. Iran is likely the most radical of the lot, stomping on its citizens human rights and demanding that Israel be driven into the sea, banished from the earth, and the "great satan" America be destroyed. In all of these examples, and many countries in between, people are rising up against their governments.
The US policy since the Bush Administration and as accelerated by the current Administration has been to support opposition groups within those countries in an effort to forward "democracy." Problem is that destabilization by these groups includes Arab socialists, terrorist groups, the Muslim Brotherhood and more. There has been success in stirring the hearts of average citizens to action, but those waiting in the wings are likely far more radical against Israel and America than the current regimes. For example, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Counterterrorism Chief John Brennan argued against attacking Libya because Libyan rebels were unknown entities that could be tied to al Qaeda.
During the Egypt revolt, the White House openly talked to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a terrorist sponsoring group that has emerged as the uniting force between Sunnis and Shiites, about its role in a democratic Egyptian government. But at the end of the day, these are all groups with great hatred toward Jews and Christians and are willing to do whatever it takes to advance the cause of rule by Sharia law--even using democracy to do it. The prophet Joel sounds a wake up call to the heathen in preparation for the Day of the Lord, "Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say I am strong (3:10)." Today, across the Middle East, the weak people are awakened. This is a type and shadow of things to come.

Prophetic Consequences: American complicity in Middle East radicalization
The harsh political unrest throughout the Middle East is instigated and built on a wave of deception perpetrated by the US and exploited by terrorist organizations. It appears that the Bush Doctrine of promoting peace through democracy has been a windfall for organized Islamic terrorists in riding the wave of political unrest. The current Administration's infatuation with all things Islamic has created a dangerous and unstable environment for Israel and the entirety of the Middle East--one that is sure to accelerate end time Biblical prophecy at a pace never experienced by any generation prior to this one. The immediate result is emboldened terrorist attacks in Israel. The long term impact is even more extreme.
The White House has treacherously accepted the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in bringing about "democratic" change in Egypt. It is documented, however, that this terrorist sponsoring organization has its fingerprints in every state of unrest in the Middle East, perhaps even beyond. The Muslim Brotherhood is not encumbered by the Sunni vs Shiite divide in Islam because its purpose is to establish Sharia law worldwide. The Brotherhood, therefore, has a seat among the most elite strategic planners of Islam in Shiite Iran as well as in Sunni Saudi Arabia. It moves freely in circles with al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas and other deadly organizations that prey on a population demonstrating for democracy.
From al Qaeda in Libya and Yemen to Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon to Hamas in Gaza, the Brotherhood appears to be the political strings behind the so-called "populace" uprising in Middle East nations. For example, the Brotherhood supported the constitutional changes adopted by Egyptian voters ostensibly for democracy because they made it easier for the Brotherhood to elect its minions to office. Already, DebkaFile reports that the recent massive mortar attack on Israeli citizens near Gaza is a direct result of Egypt's new policy which is now aligned with Syria and Iran--through the handiwork of the Muslim Brotherhood as supported by the White House.
Now the White House is pressuring Israel to "get ahead" of the Middle East unrest by brokering peace. There appears to be, however, a far greater threat looming than peace with Palestinian terrorists can solve--it is the deeper radicalization of Muslim nations that will lead to great hostilities as prophesied in the Bible. The Lord says in Ezekiel 12:27-28, "The vision that he sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of the times that are far off. Therefore say unto them, Thus says the Lord God; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done." These things are occurring before our very eyes and there are harsh consequences for those nations who assist them at the expense of God's people.

The prophetic import of the arming of Syria by Iran and Russia
In July 2006, the liberal leaning Brookings Institute downplayed the signing of a mutual defense pact between Iran and Syria saying that Iran was unlikely to equip Syria with advanced hardware. But three recent events should be a prophetic warning to the watchmen of the end times. In February, Iranian warships passed through the Suez Canal destined for Syria, where a naval defense agreement was signed. On March 16, Israel seized a cargo ship from Iran and Syria carrying six C-704 radar-guided anti-ship missiles, thousands of mortar shells and almost 67,000 assault rifle bullets for AK-47s to terrorists in Gaza. Turkey now finds weapons and ammo on a cargo plane from Iran to Syria.
In October 2001, BBC News reported that Russia and Iran announced the two countries had signed a $300 million a year arms supply agreement. But that was just a small beginning, since then, Russia has become Iran's major arms supplier, adding another $700 million surface to air missile defense system, MiG-29 fighter jets and scores of battle tanks. According to a 2006 report by the Congressional Research Service, Russia increased arms shipments to Iran, China, and Venezuela, concluding, "Experts say Iran--as well as Syria--may have transferred some of these small arms to groups like Hezbollah and Hamas." In May 2010 the Russian Itar-Tass news agency reported a Russian arms deal with Syria.
In the Middle East, terrorist groups are using what appears to be good intentions of the Islamic people toward freedom to gain power under the oppressive Sharia Law. There is unrest in most of the Arab nations. To a degree, the United States has encouraged this as reported in WikiLeaks released documents. The Muslim Brotherhood has been in Tehran meeting and coordinating with the Iranian leadership. According to the US Institute of Peace, Iran supports empowerment of the Muslim Brotherhood because "The Muslim Brotherhood is the largest Islamist organization in the Arab world that ignores Arab nationalism and Sunni identity to facilitate alliances with Islamist movements outside the Arab world."
The Russia, Iran, Syria, Muslim Brotherhood connection and relationship is important to the end time scenario. We see in Ezekiel 38 that in the latter days Magog, which is Eastern Russia; Persia, today's Iran; Ethiopia, Northeastern Africa; and Libya, Northwestern Africa; will come against Israel in a colossal end times battle. We also know from Isaiah 17:1, "Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap." Vassal states like Syria sign defense agreements for protection, but the protectors only honor the agreement until it is expedient to sacrifice the vassal. Prophecy shows the boldness of Israel's enemies as they advance under Islam. The mix is in the bowl; wrath is in the making.
