Dancing all night with no money to pay the fiddler

All the wrangling on Capital Hill about the debt limit is an indicator of and old saying my folks used to bring up, "If you dance all night you have to pay the fiddler in the morning." Another one is "someday all the chickens will come home to roost." These types of old sayings are almost vanished from the American lexicon, but if they were used more, perhaps the common sense and integrity in electing good leaders would return to our citizenry. We as citizens have been willing to hire out our civic responsibility for so long that now we face economic disaster because of the malfeasance practiced by those who are running our government. And those trying to actually fix it are condemned by the media and others.

Republicans cannot agree how to proceed with the debt limit. Some want to kick the can down the road with the president's idea of cutting $2 trillion from the government budget over ten years. Anyone with any sense knows that will never happen. Every Congress and every president over the next ten years will have their fingers in the pie and ignoring the public relations promise they made. Most all the Republicans refuse to accept the president's thirst for raising taxes to pay for the debt problem, or creating "revenues" on a "balanced approach," as the president deceptively calls it. When he says revenue and balance that means taxes that you are going to pay.

So what happened to common sense? Did you know that with all the so-called stimulus spending by this president, something near a trillion dollars, the economy created more jobs on its own? That the jobs the so-called stimulus created cost you and me $278,000 per job? The economy since all the stimulus money was spent (and no one can document where all of it went) has created nearly 300,000 jobs on its own? This is proof positive that the government should not be involved in the economy aside from making sure the playing field is fair. It should also be a very strong indicator that the tax and spend mentality does not work and that we have to do something different.

Jesus said in John 10:12, 13, "But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep." The politicians in Washington have acted like hirelings for so long that they have forgotten how to be shepherds. And the wolves have scattered them with vain words and apocalyptic predictions. Their aim is not to save the sheep, but to fleece them before their time, leaving them with no defense but to submit. We have allowed this terror by ignoring the signs, now its time to pay the fiddler and there is no money left to do it.

Whose your dictator?

Whose your dictator?

How many times have you seen a politician accuse another politician of taking bribes or having an affair or lying about something only to find that he is doing exactly what he accused? Now the Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is accusing House Republicans of dictatorship in the debt ceiling debate. She told Politico, "This is almost like dictatorship. I know they want to force the outcome that ... their extremists would like to impose. But they are getting ready to spark panic and chaos, and they seem to be OK with that." It seems that whenever the Democrats do not get their way, Republicans become extremists and now add to that, dictators.

What is extreme about requiring a government that has spent nearly $4 trillion that it did not have in the past three years to cut spending and live within its means? And what is dictatorship about a healthy debate and political pressure being applied by the American people to have government be responsible stewards? And who has recently said he would rather just raise the debt ceiling without Congressional approval? And who has actually supported such an action? First, there is nothing extreme or compulsory about good stewardship and debating how to achieve it. And second, you will not be surprised about who is actually suggesting dictatorship-style resolution to this debate, and is serious about it.

Third Ranking House Democrat, South Carolina's James Clyburn suggests that the president should veto the Republican bill and raise the debt ceiling himself using Section 4 of the Constitution's 14th Amendment. Section 4 states: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void."

Indeed the president himself on July 25 discussing allowing amnesty to illegal immigrants said, "Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. I promise you not just on immigration reform." Obviously, the 14th Amendment has nothing to do with the debt ceiling and bad stewardship. But obvious as well, there are certain people who wish to take dictatorial actions. And there are others who are working within the system. They are called extremists. Indeed, it will take extreme actions to get the tax and spenders to stop their dictatorial grip on the American household. Isaiah 5: 20 says, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness."

US Government caught arming Mexican drug cartels

US Government caught arming Mexican drug cartels

The United State government authorized and allowed gun dealers to sell thousands of weapons to "straw" purchasers for Mexican drug cartels. The guns were used as part of the drug cartel's war against the Mexican government which has ended up in the killing of over 35,000 people in Mexico during the past four years. Now the anti-gun forces in Congress are using this as a poster child for tightening reporting requirements for gun dealers along the Mexican border when in reality it was the White House's program that wanted to arm Mexican drug cartels and trace the weapons to make arrests. The plan backfired, resulting in the deaths of at least one, maybe two American law enforcement officers.

California Republican Congressman Darrell Issa is holding hearings on this massive abuse of government authority. Issa is trying to get to the bottom of who knew what, and when they knew it. The Administration has stonewalled Issa's investigation and has to date written letters to Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agents intimidating them not to reveal to Issa's committee what they know. So far, Issa has confirmed that knowledge of operation "Fast and Furious" reaches the doorstep of US Attorney General Eric Holder, who denies he knew anything about it. Issa says that either the Attorney General knew about the operation and has lied to Congress or he is so detached that he was not doing his job.

Issa told the Washington Times, "How is it that the No. 2, 3, 4 at Justice all knew about this program, but the No. 1 didn't? Is it because he said 'don't tell me'? Is it because they knew what they were doing is wrong, and they were protecting their boss? Or is it that Eric Holder is just so disconnected that he makes a speech on April 2, 2009 essentially describing advances in gun runner additional activities that describe operation Fast and Furious, but then he never checks again until he reads the newspaper two weeks before he comes to us long after the investigation is underway." Issa says the operation showed a "callous disregard" for the impact the weapons had on the Mexican people and US citizens.

Now there is the cover up. The Administration is trying to intimidate witnesses not to answer certain questions, according to a letter to ATF agents that was uncovered by Issa. When the government is in a huge quandary over massive debt, unemployment and wars, how on earth can someone make the decision to arm drug runners in Mexico? This is separation of church and state at its finest. If people elected real Christians to office, who as Exodus 18:21 says "fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness" they would have understanding of basic right and wrong. It is wrong to give weapons to unlawful thugs. It is wrong to cover it up. And it is wrong to use it to restrict guns to law abiding citizens whom the government refuses to protect.

Perilous times and the debt debate

Perilous times and the debt debate

The word of God states in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Anyone watching the president of the United States in the debt debate has seen all of this. Even the Washington Times asked in bold headlines, "Is the president a pathological liar?"

Plain speak is what we need to hear. And plain speak is that when you spend and borrow so much that you cannot pay your bills, you must cut back on your spending. American households just cannot spend more because there is nothing to spend in the family coffers. On a much larger scale, that is what has happened to America--faster under this president than all the others in history combined. Now even Democratic leaders in Congress are reluctantly agreeing with Republicans that there must be deep cuts in government programs without tax increases on an already burdened citizenry to fix the problem. The man who occupies the Oval Office is all alone in his rhetoric for a "balanced approach."

He is all alone because he is point blank lying to the American people about the situation. Insiders on the Hill in both parties are now saying the president is not telling the truth. The American people cannot afford any more government. In fact, it is out of control to the point that government spending threatens not only the national security, but also the future of every American citizen, young and old. The president is trying to make this a classic communistic class struggle between the haves and the have nots, but this is not what this debate is about. You should not hate your fellow America for being successful. His success is tied to your success and well being. This is about responsible fiscal stewardship.

The president has threatened to not pay social security or veterans benefits if the debt ceiling is not raised in a way that he can continue to tax citizens and grow the government. He is blaming his actions on those who disagree with him, saying they will force him to withhold payments. Pensions and social security are in trusts. If there is not enough money in these trusts, who stole it? Even those believing in social justice know that there is a limit to what the government can do--the limit of draining the people's every possession that it might be redistributed to someone else. Indeed, perilous times have come. The right answers are found in God's economy. You have to know the Bible, however, to understand them.

The spirit behind mass killings

The spirit behind mass killings

The world is trying to make sense of the bombing and subsequent youth camp shooting rampage in Norway that left over 90 people dead. Initially several news organizations, including the New York Times, reported that a little known terrorist group claimed credit for the killings. The NYT reported that Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami claimed responsibility, but later retracted. Later in the day as events unraveled, that story was buried and a new story emerged: That "right-wing extremist" Anders Behring Breivik acted alone in an insane attempt to create a "crusade" against Islam. Reports now profile Breivik as an admirer of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and reportedly lists his religion as "Christian" on Facebook.

It is difficult to explain why these things happen. It is not so difficult to explain why these horrible events quickly become political with everyone trying to blame their favorite political enemy. There is one thing for certain, there are evil people in the world wishing to do evil to others. Some act alone. Others act in small groups. But there is one that does so worldwide with clarity of position and is unapologetic of its actions--and that is Islam. From human slavery to drug running to murdering innocent people in the name of their god, Islam is a political system that destroys people. Whether the Norway killer acted alone, or with a small group or was part of a bigger group, he shares the same spirit of destruction.

For years people have looked at conspiracy theories from the American government invoking the 911 terrorist attacks to the various theories behind the Oklahoma City bombings--where like in Norway, innocent children were put to death. Certainly, the left likes to point at people that commit these heinous acts and say they are representative of conservatives or Christians. If they are conservative, they are not typical of political and social conservatives in America. The TEA Party, as some have suggested, did not have anything to do with the Norway massacre. As a follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, I can say with certainty that Christianity did not have anything to do with the killings either.

There is one thing that connects the Oklahoma City bombings with the Norway massacre with the 911 terrorist attacks with the attacks against Israel, and with Islam. Jesus said it in John 10:10-11, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." The spirit of satan destroys life. The Spirit of Christ gives life and protects life so much that it sacrifices itself to preserve life. The politicians and the psychiatrists and the analysts will try for years to figure this out and blame someone or something. They probably won't conclude that its just evil doing evil.

Homeland Security video pits Americans against Americans

Homeland Security video pits Americans against Americans

In April 2009, the Department of Homeland Security under the new administration issued a report on "Rightwing Extremism" in the United States. The report depicted as possible terrorists those interested in end times prophecies; concerned about a possible economic collapse; opposed to illegal immigration, abortion, and same sex marriage; opposed to restrictions on the right to bear arms; and Americans who are returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, a new DHS video release depicts mostly white Americans as terrorist suspects and encourages all Americans to spy on their neighbors and report any suspicious activity to the government.

The 10 minute video makes a point to say that terrorists are not a specific race, religion or gender, but rather comprise specific behaviors that are suspicious and out of ordinary. The video is entitled "If you see something, say something." Throughout the movie it has several black people reporting the suspicious activities of white people. In fact, of the approximately 22 people portrayed as terrorists in the video, 17 are white males, two are white females, one is a black female, one is a black male, and one is a Muslim of Middle Eastern descent. The Muslim is only found on a newspaper headline with his name beside his picture. All but three of the others are actually committing suspicious acts.

The underlying messages of this video are incredible. Blacks are encouraged to report to the Department of Homeland Security any suspicious activities of whites. Whites are predominantly purveyors of terrorism in America. Terrorism is not connected to any religion or race, except whites. Truth is, this is a $10 million taxpayer funded class warfare propaganda film pitting Americans against Americans on the basis of race, while at the same time ignoring the very fact that the overwhelming majority of terrorist acts are perpetrated by followers of Islam. That the government of the United States would propagate such suspicion and distrust among its people is immoral and un-American.

Jesus said in John 15:12-13, "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Our government should be promoting the natural affection we should have for one another as countrymen, not trying to divide us with race or religious oriented suspicion. Our government should encourage us to help one another in love, not to spy on one another in distrust. Our government should encourage a class structure that unifies us toward liberty and justice for all rather than to pit us against one another. Jesus also said in Mark 3:24, "And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand." Yet this is the division being promoted by our very own government.

Congressman Walsh and taking a stand with him

Congressman Walsh and taking a stand with him

Maybe you are getting tired of the debate. Maybe you just do not want to hear it anymore. But now is not the time to give in. Do you realize what the politicians in Washington are doing? They are moving down the path of raising taxes without cutting spending in order to allow the government to borrow more money. The debt ceiling talk is very simple: The government needs to borrow more money in order to service its debt. That is like you and I running all our credit to their maximum and then borrowing more money to just make the interest payments on the debt. What Americans are watching before their very eyes on the grand national stage is political maneuvering to eventually do nothing.

Here is what is about to happen if things continue as they are. The senate will offer up a debt ceiling plan that the president will sign. That means there will be a tax increase and some number of trillions of dollars that will be reduced in the government's budget. It will sound good, but that number is likely spread over a 10 year period, so it is worthless. Worthless because in the next ten years there will be at least three presidential elections, and five Congressional elections. Those numbers will change with the political wind. There will be at least two votes on the senate version, and finally Congressmen will say they had to vote for it otherwise the nation will default. Game over.

This could change if Americans will stand. Illinois Republican Congressman Joe Walsh has circulated a letter to his fellow congressmen calling on the Speaker of the House to prevent the Senate plan from coming to a vote in the House. Walsh writes: "Senator McConnell's plan is business as usual and does not offer any real solution to runaway spending." So far it is reported that some 80 Congressmen have signed on. If you want to make a stand here, encourage your congressman to consider the Walsh letter. At least Walsh is trying to stop this political chicanery. Many House congressmen took a no tax pledge before being elected. This is the test of their integrity and whether their word is their bond.

Exodus 18:21 tells us what kind of people should be elected to office, "Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness." We are seeing whether any of them in Congress right now measure up to these standards. Are they able to do what is right? Do any of them respect God? Are their actions truthful? Do they hate covetousness? When they seek to do many votes to say they voted a certain way to one group of people and another way to another group, this is not truth. When they vote to raise more taxes to support government addiction to your money, that is covetousness. Hold them accountable, you may be surprised with positive results!
