Are you part of the ruling class?

I praise the Lord each day that he died on the cross that we might be free from sin and have life everlasting. Galatians 5:1 says, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." As we celebrate Passover and all that it means to mankind, we should be reminded that our freedoms are derived from the rights granted us by the one true God. As he led the Israelites out of the bondage of Egypt, he made them a free people and helped them establish a system of government among them where "able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness" were placed over the people to govern.

The Lord's work on the cross freed us from sin, and one of the benefits of this freedom is that we can be governed in the ways of God, his laws fulfilled and now written on our hearts. In simplification, this means that instead of being forced to keep the laws, we want to keep them as we are inspired by the love of God, who gave his only begotten Son that we might have everlasting life. There are spiritual principles here as well as physical principles. One of the physical principles is that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Another benefit, is that we are part of the ruling class--Revelation 20:6 says we "shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years."

The Founders of this nation said that the just powers of the government are derived from the consent of the governed. John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said, "Providence has given our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." But there is an alternative concept that there is a ruling class in America. On April 13, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi urged Republicans to "take back your party, so that it doesn't matter so much who wins the election because we have shared values about, again, the education of our children, the growth of our economy, how we defend our country."

Pelosi continued: "The fact is that elections shouldn't matter as much as they do, (there) should be some place on the spectrum where we respect each other's views and all the rest." In other words, once elected, the ruling class shall determine what is right irrespective of what is right in God's eyes. My point here is that this nation's government, brought about on the principles of God's gift of salvation and freedom to its citizens, was established that moral and Godly people would participate in their government. Without this accountability, as George Washington said, our nation would be "of fatal tendency." It is time to reflect on the blessings of our Lord and act accordingly.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
