Can America Survive?

Can America Survive?

I have been asked the question, can America survive? I believe the answer is "Yes" if we as Christians do what God has commanded us to do. We have a civic obligation to our nation, for God loves the nations and judges the nations just as he loves the people and judges the people in them. Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19, 20: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." A friend of mine has said that we have a spiritual problem here in America that we are trying to solve with a political solution. The solution is also spiritual.

In Mark 16:15 Jesus says, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." And before Jesus ascended to heaven, His last words to those in witness were "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." The message is very clear--that we need to be making disciples and being witnesses of Jesus to all. Its our civic duty to our fellow man, and our obligation unto God. We must ask ourselves, 'Are we living in the reality of the world or in the reality of Jesus Christ?'

Jesus tells us the parable of the nobleman who was to go far away to receive a kingdom and return. Jesus says in Luke 19:13, "Occupy till I come." "Occupy" here means "to busy oneself with." We truly are to be about the Lord's business until his return. You see, just as Nehemiah was called to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, we are called to rebuild this nation. If God's people do not do it, it will not be done. If your house was crumbling around its foundation, you would not sit inside it and do nothing till it fell down around your ears, leaving you without shelter and protection. You would rebuild it. Just as judgment begins in the house of the Lord, so too, must the rebuilding of our nation because as the people are rebuilt so, too, will the nation follow.

Yes, we have enemies, just as Nehemiah did. There are communists; there are Islamists; there are those who hate God. And because Christians have been so absorbed by self indulgent, extra-biblical and emotional doctrines, the voices of the enemies of God, the enemies of our state, have become like clanging cymbals overpowering our society. But you know our greatest enemy?--Christian apathy is our greatest enemy. If we were doing the business of the Lord. If we were being salt and light. If we were speaking truth. If we were not of the world. If we were touching souls with the love of Christ, our nation would not be in the shape it is in. Let us reach out with the love of Christ and make a difference in our nation.

Suspension of Disbelief

Suspension of Disbelief

When I first started writing The Daily Jot in January 2002 there was probably about one prophetic-related event per month reported in the news. Not long, that was stepped up to about one per week. Then one per day. Now there are several per day to choose from in writing this daily column. Many readers write me emails about how they view the prophetic events of our time. Some are frightened. Some are accepting. Some embrace them because they know that they are living in a time when the Lord will return. Others are angry that anyone dare say that the signs of the times are related to God's Holy word. And many just push the "unsubscribe" button at the end of this message because they don't want to hear it or they think I'm nuts.

We are doing a Bible study on Revelation with a small group from our church. We are in awe by how news events are tracking with end times prophecy. And we often discuss how seeing the things that are happening before us are difficult to believe, even though you are witnessing them first hand. It is almost surreal to see how leadership in the United States, for example, is positioning the world for the anti-Christ through promoting Islam at the expense of Israel. It is difficult to believe that America is facing record debt, increased immorality, harsh natural disasters, political unrest and economic calamity--all at the same time our leadership is pressuring Israel to give up its land to radical terrorists dressed in suits.

It is difficult to fathom, but these things and many more are happening before our very eyes. There is a term in the literary world that has expanded to the entertainment industry called Suspension of Disbelief. Suspension of Disbelief requires that you accept or are required to believe something that you would never accept in reality. In entertainment or literature Suspension of Disbelief is a semi-conscious decision in which one puts aside disbelief to accept the premise as being real. For example, you must suspend your disbelief to be able to digest or internalize that an elected American leader would intentionally be destructive to the nation--as happened in the series 24 or the movie The Manchurian Candidate.

With prophetic events, imagine how you would have to suspend your disbelief to be able to digest a meteor hitting the earth and killing a third of the fish and destroying a third of the ships at sea. There was an earthquake in the Washington, DC area a few weeks ago. My office was wobbling. My desk acted as if it were rubber. My mind had to suspend my disbelief to understand to get to safety. My question is how much Suspension of Disbelief will people need to believe the prophecies of the Bible are occurring when they occur? How much Suspension of Disbelief does it take to understand the current calamity of the United States in view of the simple prophecy found in Genesis 12:3 regarding Israel: "I will bless them that blesses thee and curse him that curses thee."?

Of Imperialism and Democracy

Of Imperialism and Democracy

I recently saw an article calling the American foreign policy thrust over the past decade "imperialism." Usually, these are the words of anti-American trouble makers, but this article was from a more well respected columnist that caught my attention. He was writing what I have been thinking for quite some time. The point that the United States has "garrisons" spread throughout the world, especially in the Middle East is just one telltale sign. Its one thing to respond to an enemy's attack on your own soil, its still another to consistently binge on spreading democracy and spend taxpayer money to build nations, especially when those nations have no intention of being democratic or westernized civilizations.

Our leaders promote democracy saying that it brings peace and stability to a nation. They say that democracies are nations that get along with the rest of the world through trade and cultural exchange. Nice idea. But George Washington looked at nation building a bit differently as indicated in his farewell speech. He said, "...a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification."

Washington had a simple approach to foreign policy: "Observe good faith and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all. Religion and morality enjoin this conduct; and can it be, that good policy does not equally enjoin it - It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and at no distant period, a great nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence. Who can doubt that, in the course of time and things, the fruits of such a plan would richly repay any temporary advantages which might be lost by a steady adherence to it? Can it be that Providence has not connected the permanent felicity of a nation with its virtue?"

Washington saw a clear connection between God and country. He said that both foreign influence by nations on America and undue influence by America on foreign nations was a bad thing. He seemed to follow the rule expressed by Jesus Christ in Luke 6:31"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise." Good faith and justice towards all nations, cultivating peace and harmony does not mean overthrowing governments and establishing Islamic Sharia Law through a vote called democracy. And it surely is not doing on to men as you would have them do to you--who but a tyrant would wish Sharia Law unto a people? Our nation needs repentance for the deeds of our leaders and our part in electing them. Its not a political party thing, its an obedience to God thing.

The deeper meaning of US leaving Iraq

The deeper meaning of US leaving Iraq

The announcement that the United States would pull all of its troops out of Iraq by year's end seemed to be a surprise announcement from the White House. There were debates throughout the summer between the US and Iraq over troop presence in the country. Finally, there was an impasse over the demand that US troops must be exempt from Iraqi law if they were to stay. The Iraq government would not budge, demanding that America's servicemen and women be subject to Iraqi law. Bottom line, with negotiations at an impasse, the president announced that aside from the troops needed to protect the American embassy, America was pulling out by the end of the year. But, as usual, there is more to the story.

According to an article in the Vancouver Sun, neither the president nor the vice president had any contact with the Iraqi Prime minister for nearly a year. Logs released by the US Embassy in Baghdad indicate that there was no contact by the US president since February 13 and the last contact by the vice president was January 18. All the while this deal regarding the American troops in Iraq was looming, with military advisors saying there is a need for agreement that American strategic interests would be served in this volatile region, the man who occupies the Oval Office didn't pick up the phone to call his Iraqi counterpart.

While troops coming home from Iraq is a relief to many Americans, how the process is managed is likely of concern to every American. Iran has had Iraq in its crosshairs for more than two decades. Iran was supplying weapons and commandos to fight against American troops there. America has invested billions over the past decade as well as nearly 4,500 US soldiers killed and well over 33,000 wounded. To pull out without a plan risks Iraq at the hands of Iran and having spilled American blood in vain. It would seem that the effort would warrant more than a phone call by the president to the Prime Minister saying we are pulling up stakes and leaving by the end of the year.

There are many scenarios that could be read into these unusual actions by the president. From a prophetic point of view, watchmen see that Arab Spring is not about democracy, but rather using democracy as the mask to establish Islam and Sharia law. Mask removed, Sharia is the standard bearer for law and justice and Islam is the official religion. This is true in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and even in Gaza. This means that the enemies of Israel are further encroaching on Israel as legitimized by democracy and in the name of peace. An abrupt US pull out of Iraq signals to Iran that the nation is up for grabs, further advancing Islam and Sharia. Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Deception is in the Arab Spring air.

On the lighter side...

When the Denver Broncos announced during their bye week that Tim Tebow would be the new starting quarterback, I said a little prayer for him. I have kept an eye on all the news stories about how Tebow can't play in the NFL; that his decision-making is not good enough; that his quarterback mechanics are too awkward; that he just doesn't have it. And I wonder aloud if all the criticism of Tebow is because of his ability or because he is a strong Christian man. I have seen other quarterbacks who have fundamental problems who make it in the NFL, the critiques of them are not as harsh. But then again, if they are Christians, nobody knows about it. With Tebow, it is a different story.

Think about this: According to Bloomberg last September, Tebow set a record for rookie jersey sales, by a long shot. Bloomberg's Eric Matuszewski wrote, "While the league doesn't disclose sales totals, the former University of Florida quarterback logged the most jersey orders since 2006, the first year NFLShop.com joined with GSI Commerce Inc. to expand its online store. Tebow's sales totals eclipsed the previous draft-weekend record of Sanchez, who in 2009 was the first quarterback taken by the Jets with a top-five pick since Joe Namath." Even though the analysts and the announcers are highly critical of Tebow, he has something that causes people to take notice.

I believe that "something" is his uncompromising faith. Here he is last week down 15-0 with a little over five minutes left in the game. All the announcers are bemoaning his incompetence as an NFL quarterback. Then something clicks and he leads his team to an overtime victory. Tebow gives God the glory. He appears to me to be humble, yet strong in his faith. And from all I have heard, his teammates love him, he elevates those around him. With all the criticism leveled at him, he stays positive and his responses to the media are always upbeat, non critical of his detractors. For a young man just out of college, he is under a lot of pressure. Yet, to date, he has handled it all like a true Christian man.

People ask me every day what they can do to make a difference in this country. We are tired of the politics, the scandals, the ripping apart of our national heritage of God, family and country. Jesus said in Matthew 10:33, "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." As Christians we have a calling on our lives to preach the gospel to every creature; to be salt and light to a dark and dying world. Tim Tebow is an example of how we can do that. We need to be men and women of faith, knowing the right thing to do and doing it. If we could all just do that every day, those around us would eventually see the light.

Prophetic Clock Ticks: The White House's Islamic Revolution

Prophetic Clock Ticks: The White House's Islamic Revolution

The man who occupies the Oval Office has claimed victory in Libya, spending about a billion dollars of taxpayer money to topple the Gadhafi regime and replace it with Islamic fundamentalism. The president also praised the people of Tunisia for holding democratic elections after yet another US-supported overthrow of a government. The Islamist party Ennahda is expected to win the most votes according to the BBC. The president announced an end to the Iraq War, at the same time Iran is stepping up its efforts to increase its influence over the country. Additionally, tensions with Syria are mounting, after the US ambassador there was currying favor with revolutionaries against the Assad regime.

Already things in Libya are going against what was billed to the American people. Some 53 decomposing bodies were found in Gadhafi's hometown. The New York-based Human Rights Watch surmises that these people were executed by the American-supported revolutionary forces because they were supporters of Gadhafi. This is a picture of democracy Islam-style. The UK Telegraph reports "Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council and de fact president, had already declared that Libyan laws in future would have Sharia, the Islamic code, as its "basic source". He already has reinstated polygamy and banned interest charged to Muslims by banks--all in line with Sharia.

The Jerusalem Post reports the Ennahda Party in Tunisia had been previously banned. The Ennahda is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. While Western journalists describe the party as moderate, its leadership seeks to establish Sharia Law and has promoted terrorism with its members bombing four tourist hotels in the 1980's and calling for attacks on US interests in the Middle East for America's invasion of Iraq. The leader of Ennahda referred to Islamic banking and finance, and Islamic family law being applied in Great Britain as the example of Sharia the party wanted to establish in Tunisia. In February, Ennahda Party members converged on Jewish Synagogues shouting "Allahu akbar."

The White House is amazingly moving the prophecy clock ahead by boosting radical Islam in the name of democracy. The abrupt pullout from Iraq opens the door to Iran. The regimes in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya will be replaced by Islamic power. The White House continues to pressure Israel to cut the nation into two pieces and give up part of Jerusalem to terrorists dressed in suits. Never before in history has America so blatantly supported Islam. The prophetic clock ticks forward with each day. Zechariah 12:3 says, "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it."
