Egypt, Israel and America and the prophetic destiny

Since the United States forced the resignation of Egypt's dictator Hosni Mubarak, many have been trying to discern prophetically what this means. The recent history of Egypt lends some insight. The establishment of Israel in 1948 fulfilled many prophecies of the return of the Jews to their homeland, and it likely set the prophetic clock in motion. Egypt has played a major role in war and peace in the Middle East since then. And prior to that, in ancient history Egypt played a major role in God's plan for mankind--the lineage of Jesus Christ was preserved by Joseph becoming powerful there; the Christ was protected after Herod's decree to kill firstborn males; the Jews were preserved there in bondage.

Isaiah Chapter 19 lends us insight into God's prophetic plan for Egypt. The chapter begins with the Lord riding upon a cloud into Egypt, moving the idols aside and melting Egypt's heart. Herein, He sets the Egyptians against the Egyptians, brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor. And Egypt is given over to a cruel leader whereas the entire well being of Egypt is diminished. In their depression and oppression, the LORD eventually heals Egypt and there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria (modern day Iraq) and Assyria and Egypt will serve together, and in verse 19:24, "In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land."

Since 1948, Egypt has warred with Israel no less than three times. In 1952, Gamel Nasser rose to power after a bloody revolution and civil war in Egypt, in part the result of Egypt's defeat by Israel in 1948. Nasser established Arab socialism in Egypt and his policies provoked the Six Day War in 1967 where Israel gained Sinai, Gaza and the Golan Heights. After Nasser died, Anwar Sadat was elected leader. He attacked Israel in 1973 and gained back the Sinai after peace negotiations. By 1977, Sadat's policies resulted in riots in Egypt and he was assassinated by a group associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Mubarak then became president. It appears that Isaiah 19 is in various stages of fulfillment.

Zechariah 14:14-19 offers more insight. After the day of the Lord, the nations that come against Jerusalem, including Egypt, are expected to go up from year to year to worship the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. Verse 18-19 says "And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of the tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles." These are very important prophecies, some that are in play today. America's role in them determines to some extent our prophetic destiny. Right now, we are involved in ushering in deeper evil.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
